Statement from Henry Poole and Co

15 Savile Row, London W1S 3PJ

In recent months it has come to our attention through the Ask Andy website that misguided information and malicious comments have been made regarding the Henry Poole shop in Beijing.

Subsequent to our Directors visits to Hanloon Tailor in China and a meeting in London with Mr Xinghai Lu, Managing Director of Hanloon, the first Henry Poole shop was opened in July 2006 in Beijing. Paper patterns and sample garments were despatched from Savile Row to form the basis of Henry Poole, made in China. As in London, a skilled cutter measures and cuts individual patterns to the format of these Henry Poole samples. Every garment has a floating canvas and no fused interlining is used. Many suits are made from cloth imported from the finest English Mills. A Henry Poole cutter visits China twice yearly to assist both the cutting and production of the Chinese made garments.

We would stress that the clothes produced by Henry Poole in China are strictly for the domestic market and not exported to other parts of the world. Any order given through Henry Poole in London is still made in our workshops on Savile Row.
